Speaker Profile #1 – Dr. Kellee Slater
Dr. Slater is one of the two female liver transplant surgeons in Australia. She has trained in Brisbane and in the United States, obtaining a Liver, Kidney and Pancreas Transplant Fellowship at the University of Colorado Hospital and a Hepatobiliary Fellowship at the PA hospital. She specialises in surgery for diseases of the liver, bile ducts and pancreas, and is a member of the liver transplant team at the PA hospital. She is the deputy chair of the National Board in General Surgery for General Surgeons Australia and is a senior lecturer at the University of Queensland.
You may also have seen her in the news back in 2010 when she saved an 18-month-old child while she was out shopping. In addition to saving lives, she is the author of the book “How to do a liver transplant”, an inspirational memoir that portrays the joyous and difficult experiences of one of the most demanding jobs in the world.
